The Master Prints - This limited edition (LE) collection of 25 images were selected as especially important to the artist. This edition is limited to 50 prints of each image plus ten artist proofs (AP). They are printed on 24 x 36 inch sheets. All prints are handmade by Peter Ralston on archival rag paper with an archival ink set.

The story behind Thorofare

This photograph is a sort of like a chart of my life here.

Right smack in the middle of Penobscot Bay, Vinalhaven and North Haven Islands are separated only by the Fox Island Thorofare which, in this dawn aerial runs through the foreground, with Vinalhaven on the right.

As I wrote in my book, Sightings, “I’ve been on virtually every island in this photograph, from the Fox islands down to Frenchboro and Swan’s Island. Here I courted the love of my life and I swam under the foreground waters, once, to save a life. I’ve made forever friends and learned much here.”

Every single bit of land in this scene is an island...maybe that’s why I like this photograph as much as I do. These places have collectively become a second home to me over the last three decades.

I love this place deeply and unconditionally and forever. There are countless stories and lessons and friends ahead of me here and for them all, I am more than profoundly grateful. 

I will always be “from away,” but this is, forever, home.
